Introducing related party rules

Related party rules help improve bank reconciliation by linking bank account details to customers, vendors, or employees. When enabled in Banking Import Setup, the system automatically suggests matches based on existing mappings and learns new relationships during posting. This ensures accurate matching even when transaction data is incomplete or inconsistent.

This article explains how related party rules work and when to use them. To learn how to configure relate party rules, see Configuring related party rules

How it works

When you enable related party rules, Continia Banking checks for known bank accounts and applies mappings during reconciliation. The system can also create rules automatically during posting. For example, if an IBAN or BBAN appears on a reconciliation line, the posting process stores this information together with the matched account type and account number. Over time, the system “learns” these relationships and uses them to identify the correct account in future CAMT statements.

Automatic mapping can be turned on or off in Banking Import Setup. When enabled, mappings are updated continuously during posting. You can review, adjust, or disable individual mappings on the Related Party Rules page to maintain control, especially in cases where payments come from unexpected accounts.

Use related party rules when reconciling transactions that often include incomplete or inconsistent data. Typical scenarios include:

  • Mapping a vendor’s bank account when the vendor uses multiple banking partners
  • Identifying employees who receive reimbursements through different bank accounts
  • Associating customer bank details when bank files are incomplete or inconsistent
  • The account number is the only reliable reference (for example, a third party paying on behalf of a customer)

The system checks for matches in a specific order:

PriorityMatching methodDescription
1Related Party RulesMatches customers, vendors, or employees based on bank account information stored in related party rules. If no match is found, the system continues to the next method.
2IBANSearches for accounts using BBAN or IBAN transaction information. If a match is found, the Account Type and Account No. fields are assigned to the bank statement line or payment reconciliation journal line.
3Name and AddressSearches for accounts using address information from transactions. If the name, address, and city information from the transaction matches, the Account Type and Account No. fields are assigned to the bank statement line or payment reconciliation journal line.
4Exact NameSearches for accounts using only the name information from transactions. If the name uniquely identifies a customer, employee, or vendor, the Account Type and Account No. fields are assigned to the bank statement line or payment reconciliation journal line.
5Account No.Searches for customers or vendors using their account number when it appears in the remittance text. Numbers must match the configured No. Series to be considered, helping reduce false matches. If a match exists and the feature is enabled, it is assigned automatically. You can view related-party information on the Payment Application Review page.

Before related party rule matching can run automatically, you must enable the functionality in Banking Import Setup.

To enable related party rule matching:

  1. Search (Search) for and select Banking Import Setup.
  2. On the Matching FastTab, navigate to the Related Party Matching section.
  3. Enable one or more of the following matching options:
