Authenticating with a web service access key
As part of the configuration of the print server and file download, the Continia Document Output Service must be authenticated and thereby authorized to communicate with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. One way to do so is by assigning a web service access key to a user, as described in this article.
Note
You must also authenticate the service if you use the setup assistant to configure the print server and/or file download.
To authenticate the Document Output Service in Business Central using a web service access key, follow these steps:
- In the Business Central web client, search ( ) for and select Users. ) for and select Users.
- In the list of users, select the one that should be used for authentication. The User Card opens.
- On the General FastTab, under Web Service, select the three dots to the right of the Web Service Access Key field.
- If prompted, select Yes to update clients and continue.
- The Set Web Service Access Key dialog opens. Do one of the following:
- If you want to generate a web service access key that never expires, enable the Key Never Expires toggle, and then select OK.
- If you prefer to generate a web service access key that has an expiry date, enter or select your preferred date in Key Expiration Date, and then select OK.

- A newly generated key is displayed in the Web Service Access Key field. Copy this key.
- In the Service Manager, on the Add web service page for either the print server or file download, depending on which of these you're setting up – or on the Webservice setup assistant page for the setup assistant – go to Credentials.
- In Username, enter the name of the user that you selected in step 2 above.
- In Access token / password, paste the newly generated access key that you copied in step 6 above.
